The vibrancy and historic significance of this time period, along with the 100th anniversary of the groundbreaking of Route 66 fast approaching, is the driving force behind showcasing this collection. The scope of the collection is mainly images of historic Route 66 motels, attractions, and employees. The collection has also incorporated artifacts that highlight travel for nonwhite populations traveling across America’s first major highway. The main goals for this project are to create an aggregated, cohesive collection that increases the awareness of the nuances of Route 66’s Heyday. This unique collection will bring together dispersed items across the 1930-1950 time period to create an end user-friendly experience for historians, researchers, and members of the public who might need additional insight into Route 66 for entrepreneurial or personal endeavors.
